I need some advice on the Kindle?
I am considering purchasing a Kindle but don't know whether to get the Kindle or the Kindle 3. I enjoy reading and if I have something I am reading, I will take it to bed and read until I get sleepy also about 2/3 of hearing is gone and I don't wear my hearing aides in bed. I tried to find a number to call Amazon.com to talk to them about what would work for me. I have downloaded the software where I can download books onto my computer. I understand if you download a book direct onto the Kindle you cannot transfer it to your computer. But I understand you can download a book onto your computer and transfer it to your Kindle. I am not sure what is the best method. I know the Kindle holds about 1,500 books but I want to be able to keep all the books I download on a USB Storage Unit.
Any advice would be appreciated.
There isn't a kindle 3, there is a kindle 2 (the smaller one) and a Kindle DX (the bigger one).
Just so you know, the kindle does NOT use a backlit screen. This is so that your eyes don't get strained, but if youw ant to read in bed with the lights out it won't work. You'll either need a book light or the light on just as if you're reading a regular book.
If you download a book for your kindle and want to back it up you can do so by either going to the manage your kindle page and downloading the file and saving it or by plugging your kindle in by USB and saving it. You will not be able to read it on your computer, but it will be backed up. However, if you just want to be sure that you're not permenently deleting the books you bought you don't have to worry about that. Amazon automatically backs them up for you. If you exceed 1500 books, or even if you just don't happen to want a certain book on your kindle its no problem. Its all saved on your Amazon account. From Amazon.com you can go to the manage your kindle page and find the book you want and re-send it to your kindle (or download it and transfer over) OR there is a section you can click on on your kindle called Archives and every book you purchase is saved there for re-download whenever you like (free of charge)
