Buy Kindle 2
Buy Kindle 2 User Review...
By: Erika M. Armstrong "Kindle 2 Lover"
Still in love, but
I just Buy Kindle 2 at Amazon yesterday, and I'm still in love. This review will hopefully help non-Kindle owners and Kindle 1 owners make a decision about their purchase.
I dropped my Kindle 1 earlier this month, and decided to Buy Kindle 2 rather than pay the $180 to get a refurbished replacement. I was a Kindle 1 owner since December 2007, and quickly became my favorite possession. I never found any issue with the size, the lack of backlight, the next/previous page buttons. I travel a great deal, and loved being able to carry everything with me. In short, the Kindle 1 was perfect for me.
for Kindle 1 owners:
The improvements that were made are great, but I don't feel that they justify an upgrade to the new model. I don't notice the faster page turning, the increased resolution, or the ease of the 4 way control. I guess that's because I wasn't disappointed in those features before. One thing I did notice is that the spacing between the lines is much closer on the Kindle 2. I tried increasing the font size, but that didn't change the spacing. Anyway, after a night of reading, I don't notice it anymore. If you loved your Kindle 1, you are going to love Kindle 2, but you may not love it $359 better. If you have a workable model, I'd keep it until it breaks or you have extra money to spend. If you have issues with the silver "wheel" or page turning issues on Kindle 1, then you will probably be happy with the new version.
If you don't yet own a Kindle:
Don't be dissuaded by the negative reviews. It is still the best thing ever.
-The screen is easy to read in daylight, and Mighty Bright book light makes it easy to read at night on the coach, in bed, or anywhere. Besides, regular books don't come with lights either.
-The lack of an SD card seems frustrating to some, but for non-academic types, the space on both Kindles is great. You can also store the books that you've already read on the Amazon site, and then easily move them back to Kindle in case you want to re-read them.
- You can register up to 6 Kindle 1 or Kindle 2 to read the same book, so if you have close friends and family who read the same books, you can share them as long as they are on the same account (this does require some trust)
I give the Kindle in general 5+++ stars, but I gave this review 4 as a comparison of Kindle 1 to Kindle 2
To summarize--Buy Kindle 2 if you love books and you don't have one. If you have Kindle 1 and you are happy, save your money.
