How to get Borders book on Sony reader?
I bought a book from borders and it's in my borders desktop. I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions. Then I went to download the epub format but every time it says that the page failed to open because the server isn't responding. Is there any other way for me to get the book onto my reader?
Actually, the Borders FAQ specifically says that Borders e-books formatted as epub can be read on Sony PRS 300, 505, 600 and 700BC devices. It does not mention the 350, 650, 900 or 950 that are currently in stores. However, they should work as far as I can tell. Contact Borders customer service if nothing works.
Did you buy the book in some other format? And then try to download the epub version? They won't let you do that--you get one copy in the format you choose.
Honestly, they may have really had server problems.
Can you drag the first downloaded copy to your Reader? You will need to have the device plugged into your computer and the Sony Reader store open.
On the left hand side of the screen below where you see your Reader, you will see line that says "my computer" click that and start looking around the files until you find the book file. Then drag and drop directly to the Reader. The book is not going to be in the section with books you bought from Sony. It would be helpful if you know what location on your computer you saved the file to.
ETA: Okay, I figured I needed to try this myself. I set up a Borders account, I downloaded their app, I downloaded Adobe digital editions (which I thought I already had) and then I figured I'd try to transfer some freebies to my Sony Reader using Borders. What a huge PITA this is. I'm still not entirely sure what happens with this. First off Adobe Digital Editions did nothing except transfer blurry cover photos of the books already loaded on my reader to my reader. And I can't figure out how to delete them other than to delete all my books from my reader and then sync to ADE. Borders app opens on my computer and shows my reader and the memory available when I plugged in. However, there seems to be no way to transfer the preloaded Borders Books to my reader. So I downloaded another freebie and when I tried to transfer it (I don't remember if I tried to drop/drag or if I tried to sync) it gave me an error message. Then I closed the Borders app and ADE and opened the Borders website and signed into my account. I looked in some of the FAQs (again) and decided I would look for a free book that had a button next to it that gave me the option to download PDF or download epub. Some books have this and some just have a download button. I downloaded using PDF it transferred to my computer and when I opened it my Sony Reader program opened (just like it does when I download from any other non-Sony bookstore) and there was the book, fully readable.
I'm really glad I decided to try this with free book before paying for anything through Borders because it seems some books are destined to only work on the app and not on the Reader. I'll keep looking for another way for you however.
