I have a rough collie; He is about 10 years old and has a lot of fur in every nook and cranny. I am constantly cutting and trimming his hair. He has a lot of hot spots and sore areas on his skin. With the summer coming on, I keep thinking he would be more comfortable without all that fur. Is it normal to just take a set of clippers and cut it all off? Not bald, but short hair. I keep thinking it would be easier to locate and treat his sores that way. Plus the heat wouldn't be so bad on him for the summer. What do you think of this? Thanks for your responses...
Wow this is insane. I got like 20+ answers in 5 minutes. Well I wasn't so much worried about him over heating as I was about being able to treat his sores. I always see him twitching and cringing trying desperately to scratch himself. He always gets really happy after I trim his hair underneath because it's easier for him to move around and it's cooler... I dunno I'll probably have to consult a vet......
