Electrical Short - Light Switch & Circuit Breakers are fine, what to check next?
Turned on the breakfast nook light in my house and it shorted out. The lights of the rooms attached to the breakfast nook no longer work now (kitchen, foyer bathroom, laundry room, garage & garage door opener). Just the lights are the issue plus the garage door opener. The sockets and appliances work fine. It is only the lights.
I checked the circuit breakers and they were fine. I replaced the circuit breakers just in case but the problem remains. Also, I changed the light switches in each room and that did not fix it.
What do I check next?
Edit - The power (lights & sockets) in the basement and the top floor all work fine. It is only in the main floor and half of the rooms.

It sounds like you have a lot on one circuit, even if it is just lights. Two things give a clue as to what might be the problem - foyer bathroom, laundry room. Check the receptacles in these two rooms. Look for a small switch in the center of the receptacles. This is what is known as a Ground Fault Interruptor (GFI) and is installed in circuits that are close to water. The "Reset" button should be out further than the "Test" button, if the circuit is tripped. Push in the "Reset" and check the lights. If it doesn't work (and the button is "In) then the circuitry will have to be traced to find any broken/burned wire.
