What is a reasonable price for the DRM-locked eBooks?
I think maybe $ 2 for an eBook locked, $ 10 for a open process I can reformat. Normally I buy paperbacks at market price, $ 12, and kept indefinitely, or 40 years. I can lend a friend, linking them if they are damaged, and they are independent of technology I. Recently bought a Sony Reader to play with. I can download Project Gutenberg books in multiple formats, or create my own epub or pdf documents, but if I buy the Sony store there is no guarantee I'll be able to read in 15 years - and besides, I can not even access the store from my (Linux) desktop.
I have 2 Sony Reader. It depends of what you read. I am a reader of a novel heavy so I usually do not read my books. I have several other genera outside the romance and I think that $ 9.99 the most is that I am willing to pay. The reason why prices have jumped due to Apple who was plotting with publishers ahead with the agency model in order to Amazon bankrupt when they came with IPAD. But I also have 3 cards New York Public Library (NYPL, Queens, Brooklyn) so I rarely buy books. There are also many gifts from many retailers ePub.
