Kindle Wireless Reading Device
What's the best wireless reading device to get? ex. Kindle?
I've only heard of Kindle, any others? And if you know, how does Kindle compare to the others?
Thanks!
The three major players are the Kindle, Sony, and the Nook (B&N).
Of the three, the Kindle has the largest market share and I believe it has so for good reason, but I'm also a kindle owner so I may be biased
The Sony has had various versions out even longer than the Kindle. They have a good product. Their problem is their store is insanely expensive. You can only purchase books from the store your e-reader is connected to, and Sony's store is the most expensive of the 3 by far. And they have the smallest selection.
The nook has B&N behind it, which should be a good thing, but its turning into a nasty mess in my opinion. The software just wasn't quite ready for release. If you're interested in nook I would give it at least six months to see if they iron out the software problems first (pages missing, sharing not working, etc.). Right now you couldn't pay me to buy a nook.
Which leaves the Kindle, which thankfully seems to be an excellent product. The device itself is nice and easy to use. Its simple and intuitive so even non-tech geeks can use it. The Amazon store offers the largest current book selection (B&N advertises larger, but that's because they include books like google books that anyone can access) at the lowest prices. And Amazon's customer service is beyond wonderful. I've had my kindle for 10 months and my husband has one as well. In all this time the one technical problem we had was the kindle fading in the sun and a 5 minute call to customer service got me a new kindle overnighted with a packing slip to send the old one back. I couldn't ask for better honestly.
