Amazon Kindle procedures series: Learn how to access the "secret" functions to Kindle 1

Amazon has built a number different characteristics in the Kindle which has never made it to the menus you use to access your e-books and audiobooks. You can do everything from make screenshots of your screen to find your Kindle position on Google Maps using wireless technology in the Kindle Whispernet.

NOTE-The characteristics are mentioned here for the Amazon Kindle device 1. The Kindle 2 devices available after February 24, 2009 will probably have different characteristics keyboard accessible.

To access these functions you use a combination of keys on the keyboard your Kindle. Most of all features begin by pressing the button <ALT> which is on the lower left side of your keyboard Kindle. You may also have to press the <SHIFT> which is directly above the key <ALT> and a symbol of the vertical arrow. Some special features, you can access:

1. Play a game of Minesweeper on your Kindle - from the screen Home and press the button <ALT> <SHIFT> then press <M> access to a basic game Minesweeper. Menu Minesweeper allows you to control the size of the grid and the number of mines that you have to find.

2. Find the time - from the screen Home Kindle press the button and <ALT> <T>. The page number display (1 in 3) in the bottom left of your screen Kindle will change to display the time.

3. Find the time - the reader Kindle Screen (ie while reading and e-book) press button and key <ALT> <T>. The "Holiday" display in the bottom left of your screen Kindle will change at a time when format is text vs. Digital. For example 1:31 ET "Twenty-nine to two."

4. Take a screenshot "of your screen Kindle - From any screen, press the <ALT> <SHIFT> and key, then press <G>. You will not receive notification that screenshot was taken, but you will find the screenshot on your SD card Kindle. The Kindle will not save screenshots its internal memory.

5. Find your current location - Open the browser on the Kindle - Menu> Experimental> Web Basic then press <ALT> and 1 <> key. Google Maps is opened with your specified location. Your position is "triangulation" of Whispernet wireless access integrated into the Kindle so it's not quite true. But you can zoom in and out on the map to get a better idea from where you are - you entered the ball park.

6. Access your e-book as a slideshow - Kindle e-book reader press <ALT> and <0> to enable the ability to slide. Then press <ALT> and <1> key to start the slideshow. Press <ALT> and 2 <> to turn off the slideshow. Press <ALT> and 0 <> button again to disable the ability to slide.

7. Check the Kindle audio player - Press key and <ALT> <P> key play or stop the music player. Press the key and the key to pass <ALT> <F> to the next track.

8. Restart your Kindle - Kindle If you acted a bit "flakey" you can do a soft reboot by pressing button and press <ALT> <SHIFT> then press <R>.

The eight characteristics listed above should give you an idea of the capabilities that are "hidden" in your Kindle. Some of them will make your experience Kindle a little better, and some helps when you try to make problems problems with your Kindle. Keep this list handy so when you're tired of reading your favorite e-book or listen to your favorite audio books, you can try.
