If you are looking for a device that can help you do your reading then you should look for Kindle by Amazon. But not many of us are very excited to spend hundreds of dollars just to get cheaper books.
Now there is good news because the Kindle was turned into an application that can run on your PC. You will be able to download and read any book without the help of an iPhone or a Kindle device. There haven't been any Linux or Mac versions yet but there is a way that you can get it running on a Linux based machine as well.
The following tips are for a system running Ubuntu 9.04 on Gonome. But it has proven to be successful with other versions of Linux as well since the versions don't have significant differences between them.
The first thing you need to do is to get Wine HQ software on your computer.
After the software has been installed, go to Amazon website and download Kindle for PC application on your computer.
Installing this program is not different from the installing other applications but you will have to execute the program with the help of Wine HQ software loader.
If you notice any text when you open the program for the first time then you should close the application and run configure wine' screen on the software.
Then you have to add kindle as an application to the program and set it running in windows 98 mode. This method should have fast results. If the application is still not working then you should try other methods that will make the kindle application work on your computer.
After following these steps, the kindle application should work perfectly. After you get the program running you will have to unlock it with the help of your email and password.
Halloween gift bags and champagne gift baskets are thrilling presents to give during this season.
Does the Ipod touch have a Read-to-me app or software like the kindle does?
I have a learning disability and I'm looking for something to read text books to me while I read along with it. So I'm just trying to figure out which would be better to invest in, the Ipod touch or the kindle.
Ok so do you think that I would be able to find more Text books for school with the kindle or the Ipod touch?
No, you cannot. The read-to-me function is only available on the Kindle device itself.
In addition, I don't recommend to read on device like iPod Touch or iPhone. The screen is small and backlit, and they are not designed for reading. It will even hurt our eyes if we read on such device for long term. The Kindle, on the other hand, uses eInk that simulate actual books and will not hurt our eyes even for long hours of reading.
There is an article talking about Kindle compared to iPhone here:

And I also recommend you to read this review from a top reviewer who is also a book lover:

Hope this helps.
