kindle 3 vs kindle 4 - language dictionaries?

I have a kinde 4 and was wondering whether to exchange it for a kindle 3, but first wanted to ask something. The kindle 4 supports different interface languages (french / spansh / itsalian / portuguese) and when you read certain books in these languages the kindle will automatically detect the language and change the dictionary (so french definitions come up when you red a french book, spanish for spanish....) doe the kindle 3 also do this?

Nope, Kindle 3 doesn't have the monolingual dictionaries in languages other than English. In fact I came across your question because I'm trying to find out if there's any way to download the Kindle 4 dictionaries onto Kindle 3 (I'm looking for an Italian monolingual one), but haven't had any luck so far! There are many ways in which I prefer my Kindle 3 (3G, keyboard, longer battery life) but lack of foreign language dictionaries is a major drawback.

ETA: I have to slightly revise the above answer, as I've now found the Zingarelli monolingual Italian dictionary on Amazon! This is the same dictionary provided for free on Kindle 4, so presumably the dictionaries for other languages are available too. You do have to pay, but it was very cheap, only 66 pence, and it detected the dictionary automatically when I started reading an Italian book. So I'm now very happy with my Kindle 3 and would choose it over Kindle 4 - AFAIK, the only thing lacking is ability to change the interface language.
