Kindle, the bestselling product on Amazon.com for the last two years, lets people loan and borrow books. If you have a Kindle, you can loan your eBooks to friends that don't have a Kindle? If you don't have a Kindle, you can borrow books from someone who does have a Kindle. For those that do not have a Kindle, you just use Amazon's free Kindle reading applications for PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android devices to read a borrowed book.
Eligible books can be loaned one time for a two week period. Not all books are eligible though. It's up to the publisher (or the rights holder) to determine if a book is available for lending. If a book is eligible for lending, it will say "Lending: Enabled" on the Product Details Page in the Product Details section. To find out if the books you already own are eligible, you can check the Your Orders section in Manage Your Kindle. When you click the "+" next to a book title more information will be revealed. If your book is eligible, there will be a "Loan this book" button next to the product image.
To loan a book just click the "Loan the book" button and fill out the form with the name and email address (and an optional message) of the person you are loaning it to. The borrower has one week to accept the loan. If they do not take the book within that time, it will become available for you to loan again.
To borrow a book, the lender must fill out the form I just mentioned. Then you'll get an email with a button labeled "'Get your loaned book now." Just click the button and you will be taken to Amazon. Once there, you will have to either log-in to your Amazon account or create an account if you don't have one. If you're already a Kindle user, all you have to do is select the device that you want the book delivered to from the drop-down menu and click the "Accept" button.
If you do not have a Kindle, just click the "Accept" button. This will allow you to be taken through the step necessary to download the free reading application for your device. After you download the program, you need to go back to the original email and click the "Get your loaned book now" button again.
You have one week (7 days) to accept a loan and two weeks (14 days) to read the book. A book can only be loaned out one time. After that it will no longer be eligible for lending. When you lend a book out, you cannot read it until the two weeks are over. Any notes and highlights you've made in your book will not be visible to the borrower, but will still be visible to you once the loan has ended.

Nook or Kindle? I know nothing about them?
Ok so I read a lot and was first lit corners and cons because I like the actual book in my hand. Now, I plan to buy one. I do not know which one to buy. I would use it mostly novels and textbooks. I have an iphone so I do not really need to corner / Kindle for internet use. Any suggestions on what is the best? I read some comments but they were old enough. I also wanted to know if you can find books on a library of them for free? If yes, how does it work?
