international shipping question?
I'm thinking of purchasing a kindle for my wife and having it shipped to her parents in the sates - then have them ship it to us here in China.
My question is, is that possible? Will there be any kind of fees (customs, tax, etc)? Is it safe?
We have sent and received many packages with no problems, but none of them had anything this valuable in it....nor did any of them have any electronics beside one video game and a season of Scrubs - so I'm not sure what shipping an e-book reader necessarily entails.

There are no Chinese import duties on personal goods valued under US$2,500. So long as the customs declaration form is accurately completed, there will not be any problems.
Many expats in China and elsewhere do exactly what you are planning. Having computers, medication, clothing, etc shipped to friends overseas is quite routine.
Shipping packages to and from China is secure. Get a tracking number and insure it to be on the safe side. I've lived in Shanghai for years and never lost any packages in transit.
