Today, we have the option in choosing many varieties and styles that are presented to us on the market. The digital radios use a battery back-up in the event of a power outage. Clock radios can easily put you to sleep or wake you up to the sound of music.
When radios became a common appliance in many homes, it did not take long for industrial designers to apply new features on them. This paved the way for the original designs we have today. When early models of clock radios were available in the market, they immediately became a hit to many consumers. They simply went for radios with clocks. They were not just a source for information and entertainment, but a source to keep them on time.
There are so many appealing radios for kids, nowadays, such as the Disney Classic AM/FM radio with an alarm, the Disney Princess radio, not to mention the Hello Kitty digital radio, Hello Kitty Sleeping radio, Hello Kitty Stereo radio and many others that are on the market today. I was so fascinated with these cute alarm clock radios that I had already selected one as my own. I am familiar with the name Disney, but who was "Hello Kitty"? So after doing some research I found out that "Hello Kitty" is a cartoon character that has recently turned 36 years old. The red bow tie in her hair and her expressionless face are recognized around the world. Her image appears in everything from clocks, pens, and notebooks to diamond jewelry and automobiles, and by the way, she has her own theme park. Ever since she appeared in 1974, "Hello Kitty" has stolen the hearts of children, teens,and adults.
Hello Kitty was born in Japan in 1974, when a company in Sanrio asked designer Ikuko Shimizo to invent a cartoon animal who would appeal to preteens and the "young at heart". Sanrio already had a bear and a dog in its cast of characters, but needed a cartoon animal to decorate a plastic coin purse that was being created. Shimizu wanted to design a cat, and Shimizu produced a white cat, wearing a red bow and blue overalls. In November 1, 1974, Sanrio introduced the first picture of "Hello Kitty. She sat between a bottle of milk and a pet goldfish.
Behind this little cat lies an enormously successful business. For the fiscal year of 2005, Tokyo-based Sanrio reported a net profit of 7,621 million yen ($68 million) on sales of 98,899 million yen ($884 million). The company attributes half of these figures to Hello Kitty.
We have quite a variety of radios for children today. Radios with an integrated clock not only teach them how to tell time, but wake them up for school. I would say that kids would be delighted with a clock radio.
