There were no more reserves in the world of publishing end of eBooks, electronic books, and changes in the industry.
Now the game is about to change again as Apple prepares to unveil their version of the Tablet PC. The tablets are not new, but they failed to gain a foothold beyond the utilitarian use. There is no doubt Apple products are revolutionary, evolutionary, and everything in-between (look no further than the iPod or iPhone). Now, if the many rumors hold any weight, Apple is about to eReader change the market.
Or maybe not.
Rumors prices iSlate Apple (or whatever they end up calling it) to 1000 $. Yet in an informal poll conducted by Retrevo, 70% of consumers are not interested in buying a iSlate if a price than $ 700. In addition, "Retrevo is roughly half of respondents said they did not think they needed a tablet computer "at all.
In addition, compare the price level of $ 1,000 rumored with the current price of $ 259 Kindle. The islation is supposed to do much more than simply serve as an eReader, but c'mon. For someone who just wants to read eBooks on a small lightweight unit, I think that the choice is easy.

But how long before these same retailers 'crying' uncle and raise prices, while deploring how greedy publishers forced them to do so because they will not lower their prices. The impact could be devastating to a publishing industry already reeling.
That's where Apple's role as savior comes in. Apple energized and legitimized the world of music line with the introduction of the iPod and the iTunes Store. Publishers are hoping they will do the same with electronic books. Also, by making their own deals with Apple, the editors hope to regain some influence on prices from Amazon.
Personally, I 'm curious to see what new capabilities of Apple tablet could have (although I do not intend to buy one, I'm pretty happy my Kindle). I am particularly interested in the possibility of Apple selling books on iTunes and if they will open the possibility for authors like the way Amazon has opened the Kindle store. Last but not least, I'm looking forward to January 27th (the opening day of Apple) if is clear that the rumors and finally breathe a reality in this story.
