Ebook Reader ... Sony or Kindle?
I'm looking to buy a ebook reader, but I have some questions first. I lean toward the purchase of the Sony PRS-505 because I read it supports pdf files that the majority of ebooks I currently own are in this format. But My questions are: 1) ebooks sold at amazon.com only compatible with the Kindle and any other ebook reader? 2.) With the Kindle you can only buy ebooks on Amazon? And correct me if I am wrong in my assumption that the PRS-505 is compatible with Sony's ebooks made other than their own sites. If someone has one of these please also include some of the advantages and disadvantages of the device you have.
I a Kindle, so my comments are totally biased. I do not know much about the newest Sony e-reader. I'm pretty sure of Amazon.com e-books are in their own format owner (AZW), so unless the Sony Reader can only open format, you probably will not be able to buy books from them. However, there are sites that sell hundreds of thousands of books that are in the public domain, and HTML. MOBI and other formats that the Kindle can read well. things I love: 1. Download free samples. It's like going to the bookstore and spend some time perusing the edition paper. Approximately one third of the things I downloaded were in this format. When I get to them if they interest me, I'll buy everything. 2. The Kindle takes much less space on my shelf! I like reading, and I tend to buy two new books while I 'm still reading one. It gets on the nerves of my wife. So now we do not need much storage space. 3. The Whispernet. Downloads books in a few seconds. 4. The integrated dictionary. I found that I use a lot more than I thought. 5. It makes me feel that I am an officer on the starship Enterprise when I use it! 6. There are tons of books for free or very cheap, not just the bestsellers. You do not get at Amazon.com, either. 7. I have read some complaints about the lack of backlighting. I guess many people want to be able to read at the bottom of Mammoth Cave. Personally, I do not like this. I already need light to read books, so there is no biggie. 8. Change text size is a cool way! 9. I let my Whispernet off while I read, so that the battery life is excellent. I loaded up about once a week, but even then the dough is not completely discharged. Things I dislike: 1. Still not enough stock. Kindle is still too new. Hopefully with time, more and more writers and publishers aboard. 2. It does not make images very well all. Amazon will continue to improve this technology if they really want to replace the printed word (which I do not think books are never really get there to remain). I see young college one day to have all their textbooks on a Kindle, though. But not yet. 3. Amazon.com Announces "more than 190,000 pounds. But I found that many of these books are actually repetitions. I think I found 5 or 6 different versions of the autobiography of Ben Franklin all available at different prices. Do not really understand this logic. I suppose some of them may have different reviews modern editors. 4. They need to design a better coverage. As long as I hold tight, it's good, but it tends to slip out a bit. 5. The right hand "next page" button is placed on the very edge of the Kindle. From time to time I get my hug, and accidentally turn the page.
