Christians what do you say about some contradictions in the Bible?
2 Kings 8:26 (King James Version)
26Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
2 Chronicles 22:2 (King James Version)
2Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.
so how old was he 22 or 42?
2 Samuel 24:1 (King James Version)
1And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.
1 Chronicles 21:1 (King James Version)
1And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.
Is Satan the Lord of David?
The first lists his actual age(22), and the second lists his regnal years in terms of the house of Israel starting with Ahab(42). The latter figure includes the years of Ahab King of Israel(22) plus the reign of his son Jehoram of Israel(12) plus the reign of Jehoram of Judah(8) whose son was Ahaziah by Athaliah, a daughter of Israel. Thus the total regnal years for Ahaziah of Israel is forty-two(heb. "a son of forty two years"), though his actual age was twenty-two when he began to reign in Jerusalem. Why the regnal number forty-two is dated to Ahab however, can be surmised as a countdown of the curse that God specifically put upon the house of Ahab, 2Kings 9:8. Alternatively, the phrase "a son of forty two years" may refer to the number of years of experience that Ahaziah had when becoming king, for according to 2 Chr 22:4 the house of Ahab was his counselor after the death of his father, thus he had equivalently the mindset of a forty-two year old Ahabic house upon ordination. And although the reigns of Jehoram of Israel and Jehoram of Judah are overlapping, the fact that they are from different areas differentiates their experiences enough that they might be included as different periods of experience into a total sum of experience for the house of Ahab.
To the latter accusation, the so-called confusion is easily resolved by realizing that both occurred. Whether you want to say that they were separate incidents, or the more likely that God allowed Satan to move against David in a similar way as he did against Job, it presents the possibility which defeats your contradiction.
