Is it possible to turn off my Kindles screen saver?

When I turn the power off, my Kindle has a picture that stays on the screen. I am sure it doesn't hurt it any but I know it must be using up my battery. Is it possible to get it to just turn blank when the power is off?

Yes it is.

And you are right, turning it off normally puts it in sleep mode. The screen saver doesn't really use any power, but other things, like wireless, still draw power.

If you wish to turn your Kindle all the way off, including blanking the screen, slide and hold the power slide switch for 7 seconds, until the screen blanks.
