Kindle Review! Top 10 buys of the year
Why own one?
Light Crystal Display or LCD TVs are thin and lightweight, therefore you can save space with this kind of television. Similar to the LCD computer monitor, this is a good space saver unlike the bulky traditional computer monitor or the big and bulky traditional cathode ray tube TV. Equipped with great image quality, you will also experience no burn-in problems or static images because the liquid crystals filter the fluorescent backlight.
Samsung LCDs lasts almost a lifetime or 30,0000 to even 80,000 hours as claimed by the brand. This outperforms the plasma TV with a life span of half the life expectancy of an LCD. Samsung LCD TVs can last for a long time as long as the backlight can produce or emit white light. But when time weakens the system, backlights can be replaced so this makes the unit cost-efficient too. Aside from that, the LCD can also be used as replacement for the standard computer monitor. Its dual function definitely saves you some dollars.
Another money saving advantage given by LCDs is that it uses less electricity that Plasma TVs or CRTs. Research claims that LCDs are economical because they use less, or almost half the power the traditional and other forms of television use.
Why stick to the traditional form?
The larger sizes are not that affordable. Although prices have dropped because of the increasing demand, the bargain prices still appear expensive compared to the regular prices of traditional or plasma televisions.
Because LCDs use filters and white backlight, there is a possibility that the RGB quality or the red, blue, and green color outputs are compromised. Sometimes, you may notice that blacks appear dark grays in color because the white light passes through.
There is also the possibility of reduced viewing angle. Because the white light passes directly through the pixel and because of the characteristics of the polarizing filters, the angle of vision may decrease. It could be noticeable that the quality of the blacks and colors at angles greater than 20 degrees off axis is poor.
But then again, people have different needs. And the variety of choices may actually satisfy every need. Therefore, the decision of owning or not owning an LCD depends on the customer's personal wishes and desires. The good may outweigh the bad in this review but at the end of these all, the decision is still up to you.

Nook Color? Does it have a backlight?
Does the Nook color have a backlight on the screen where you can read in a dark room? I know the Nook does not and that would really be the main reason I would want one. If the Color does not, does anyone know of a Nook, Kindle, etc. type of thing that might?
In short, I won't choose iPad or Nook Color, because they're using backlight screen like computer screen, and is difficult to our eyes. Just not suitable for reading purpose. For other ebook readers including the B&N Nook, Sony Reader, and Amazon Kindle, I'll go for the Kindle. For the Sony Reader, many books (especially new releases) cannot be easily find on it. For the Nook, it is good but it is slower and less user friendly compared to the new version of Kindle.
There is also quite a good comparison between the ebook readers here:
