Which book "brought" you to reading?

I wasn't always the avid reader I am today, and it took several years before I really became a fan of the classics. I spent my childhood days as primarily part of the Gameboy generation rather than the reading generation. That is, I read Harry Potter, Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy and a few others, but never really 'found' reading as such.

It took until GCSE literature, when we read To Kill A Mockingbird, to turn me onto reading literature for life. From then, it seems, I had no choice. I'm now studying literature at university and was wondering if any of the B&A family had had similar reading-related-epiphanies, and, if so, which book did it for you?

If not, which book would you consider the book that 'defines' your love of reading; your favourite, the best book you've read, etc?
Just to add; the best answer will go to someone who elaborates rather than just giving me a title. I want to know what makes it so good, why it means a lot to you, and a brief outline of plot, etc.

I was the same, I liked to read things relevant to my generation as a kid, but never really found a love for literature until later. My book was 1984 by George Orwell, I think I was a Sophmore or Junior in Highschool.

Never in my life have I been that involved in a book, real life got the volume turned to mute, all I wanted to do was get home and find out what happened next. This was the first time I realized books were more than entertainment, even more than escapism. My brain was exploding as I constantly related the story to real events and the way humans act. It caused me to question myself, question society, and left me thinking for months afterwards. I had always viewed books as entertainment, but this was the book that showed me how meaningful and influential they can be.
