How long I last iPad?

I am a junior in high school yet and I'm thinking of buying from of IPAD. I would use it as an ebook reader at the university and I want to last all four years. But my friends tell me 5 years is unrealistic. I had my iPod touch for almost two years, with a fairly heavy daily use, it has fallen to about half-life of the original battery it. How long do you think a first gen iPad me last, assuming I did not drop and it is used on a daily basis?

If you have the iPod Touch, I recommend you take the IPAD, because they can do are quite similar. And IPAD is not good as a ebook reader for reading purpose. You must choose a place Kindle this purpose.
