What type of software is used for e-books?
I have a Mac, and I am planning to sell eBooks from a Blog / Site with PayPal as the payment processor. If I invest in a machine like Adobe ebook 9.0 or can I just create the ebook in Microsoft Word, save it in a PDF file and make it available for download. Do I need an ebook reader on my site? Does he need a device for FTP? How do I do?
You must choose the best format available on most platforms, you might also consider the target for those who read it. I would not use Microsoft Word. If you create a technical manual, you should seriously consider DocBook (an XML format that is) with DocBook, you can converted into different formats. If you want to stay "cheap" and you're technically inclined, Mac (OS X) comes with a tool called "groff" published many books were actually written using troff (which is based on groff), however, it is a little outdated and requires you to know guidance on a troff.
