1. Textbook prices are not competitive

Kindle books are cheaper than printed versions, but not by much. Many Securities are only a few dollars cheaper on the Kindle. ebooks Considering the cost of the publisher almost nothing to make and distribute, how is that fair for the consumer? A Kindle book should at least be cheaper than a used book. It's usually the opposite. Students are not encouraged to buy Kindle books when the college bookstore has a print version used for less. In comparison, textbooks tend to be much Nook more competitive prices.

2. Lack of availability Book

Unless you're hell-bent on obtaining a degree in general studies, you'll find books difficult for advanced courses on the Kindle. This could be great for your first two years of college, but even then, teachers of lower classes use yet hard to find books. The fact of the matter is the Kindle has not caught on textbook publishers. Meanwhile, the Kindle is unnecessary for students

3. No resale value

Besides the high prices and lack of availability, you can not sell a book Kindle. College students can recover 30-50% cost of their textbooks through resale. This is not an option on the Kindle. And once again, publishers Kindle does the price of their works to compensate for that.

4. Physical limits

The Kindle can be a real asset because of its small size and high quality E-ink screen, but the physical benefits stop there. Unless you pay $ 379 for the Kindle DX, the screen 6 inches the standard model is too small for textbooks. contributes to searchable text for this. However, the device can only read a paragraph of small text at any time and changing pages very quickly becomes boring. Visual learners will also miss the color schemes and images that stimulate learning.

5. Cost of Kindle

Kindle manuals provide little savings in advance and have no resale value, but what about the cost of the Kindle itself? A $ 139 model launch is not a bad deal. Being given the shortcomings of textbooks on the Kindle, however, you be crazy to buy one as a player dedicated textbook.

Dan is a photographer, freelance writer and Kindle owner. He enjoys writing about new technology, especially the Amazon Kindle and Kindle Cover. When he is not reading or writing, Dan spends time with his family.

Would you buy a Kindle?

According to the commercial they start at 139. But what does that include and how does wifi work. Is it free? And will they ever charge for it? I've been trying to decide if I will like the kindle. I have the kindle app on my phone and love having access to all the books I want when I'm on the go, but the problem with that is my eyes are a little sensitive and it hurts my eyes to stare at my phone very long plus its a small screen. Not to mention I live in a small town and its about a 2 hour drive the the nearest decent bookstore. So I think a kindle would be nice to have. But I do love the feel of holding books and turning pages so I can't decide if I'd love it.

What are your thoughts on the kindle and how does it compare with the Nook and iPad (which I know is way more expensive). Would you buy a kindle?

Hello, stephanie, I own Nook Color and it's great. Kindle is so last year. Nook from Barnes & Noble is the best combination of price and features of the eReaders market. Advantages of Nook over other eReaders on the market include the fact that Nook allows to lend books for two weeks to friends or to your other devices that run B&N app (PC, MAC, Android phones, Apple iPhone, iPod and iPad, etc.), that when you walk in with the Nook to B&N store you're allowed to read any available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi, that Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for library ebooks and for renting text-ebooks. All of it is true for both e-Ink Nook and Nook Color. Kindle only supports eBooks in its proprietary AZW format. Nook, on the other hand, supports both DRM-protected and DRM-free ebooks in ePub format thus it supports ebooks from B&N store, from any other DRM-free source on the web, and from public libraries.
If you're willing to spend a bit more, you could get Nook Color from Barnes & Noble which is a hybrid Android device, much more than just an e-Reader but not a full tablet as it doesn't have a camera (but iPad also doesn’t have one.) Even though Nook Color has LCD touchscreen, it's a new generation screen which is anti-glare coated and is better performing in sunlight and produces less glare all of which are dooming reading on iPad. Also, the screen is amazing and readable/viewable at wide angles.
Nook Color has several apps that already come with the device (Pandora Internet radio, QuickOffice, etc.) Also, Barnes & Noble recently released Nook SDK and Nook Developer platform that will allow most of the existing 100,000 Android apps be ported to it. You can use the Social Settings screen to link your NOOKcolor to your Facebook account and your Twitter account. You can also import all your contacts from your Google Gmail account. Once you have linked to Facebook and Twitter and set up email contacts, you can lend and borrow books, recommend books, and share favorite quotes with your friends.
